Individuals and past experience that most informed me of my values include my parents, my high school teacher Mr. DeLuca and my internship mentor Dr. Henkel. My parents have informed me in values to do the best I can in life and also to show to show respect and kindness to those who you know and do not know. They also have informed me in other values, especially in wanting to pursue a career profession that would contribute to a person’s life. There overall values that they instilled to me help shaped my other values and other participation I had during my high school years. For instance, during my senior year I had a mentor who helped me create a book that would provide an overall big impact to the Hatboro Horsham School District Community. More specifically, we decided to work on a project which was to create a book that would inform students at an elementary school in Horsham to embrace challenges and look at obstacles from a positive perspective. The way my mentor best put it was for our book to have the message of giving advice. He told me to go ahead and think about myself as that young age and how I was. George Orwell successfully condemns these targets through satirical techniques such as irony, fable, and allegory. Post-impressionism and Artists

Impressionism was a movement that came about in the late 19th century, most specifically its roots can be traced back the 1874 when a group called the Anonymous Society of Painters, Sculptors, Printmakers, etc. organized an exhibition in Paris. (Samu, 2004). The group led several exhibitions through the 1880’s which brought them into the spot light despite criticism from the conventional art community in France. The movement received its name from one of the movements most now most recognized artists Claude Monet and his piece Impression, Sunrise. It is said that a critic accused the painting of being a sketch or â€Å"impression†. (Samu, 2004) Paintings of this period tended to be outdoor scenes and panoramas. My Grandfather, Lawrence Bird, who was an artist and set designer for Disney modeled his style of art after this period. He was inspired by the artists of this period and their focus on developing their own technique that was more centered around light and its effect on the image. The painting technique included short choppy and broken strokes with vibrant and light colors adding new dimensions to their paintings. Impressionism did an amazing thing it realized the phenomenon of transitoriness. The artist that carries his canvas out into the great outdoors and strives to record every small detail of what his eye can perceive is in very different state of mind than the artist that creates his art in a studio reconstructed from sketches or studies. (Collins, 2012) The social, economic and political climate of this time saw many changes. You had the industrial revolution, which replaced small farms and factories with large industrial complexes. This eventually led people into more urban areas out of the country side. There is the release of the communist manifesto by Marx and Engles and of course Darwin’s release of â€Å"Orgin of the species. † (Werner, 1998) Both changing the way people thought and viewed the world they lived in. Due to the above mentioned industrial revolution there are many new and useful items now readily available to artists, authors, sculptors and so forth. One of these items includes synthetic chemical pigments that often have greater luminosity than previous organic pigments, thus allowing the artists to explore more vibrant styles. The most notable and recognized painters of this time embraced this new medium in which to work with. These artists included: Alfred Sisley, Armand Guillaumin, Berthe Morisot, Camille Pissarro, Claude Monet and Pierre Renoir. As a former sailor in the United States Navy I have an affinity for lighthouses and depictions of the sea. One of my favorite pieces of this time is Claude Monet’s – Mouth of the Seine, done in 1865. This masterpiece, with its lighthouse in the distance depicts the coming and going of the many merchant, fishing and leisure vessels as they navigate the waters of the Seine river as it empties into the English Channel. The image to me, represents a simpler time where sailing was an art that was performed by skill rather than instruments and automation. Impressionism was not brought about by a necessity or tragic change in the social environment, more so out of the fact of new ideas and the availability of these new mediums. This allowed the artists to break free of the â€Å"statu quo† and express their view on the world around them in a fresh, new and vibrant way. Impressionism opened up the art world’s eyes and lead to the influence of many new and creative artists that expounded on not only using the optical impressions but also using the new found artistic style to also expression emotion and themes of greater symbolism. (Voorhies, 2000) These artists â€Å"rebelled† against the so-called limitations of impressionism. These artists felt that impressionism was missing many key elements including emotional, structural, symbolic and spiritual representation. (Misialowski, 2006) Artists of this time frame worked, in most cases, independently and today are most often referred to as Post-Impressionists. The style was defined by vibrant colors, thick paint application, real life subject matter, geometric shapes, and distortion of objects figures for expressive emotional effect. Some of the key artists of this time included: Vincent van Gogh, Paul Cezanne, Paul Gauguin, Georges Seurat. Aristide Maillol and Edouard Vuillard. One of my favorite pieces of this time comes of course from van Gogh. The piece is titled Stra?enarbeiter which means Road Workers. The imagery of this piece is rough and course with distorted views and sharp lines. The shapes of the trees almost draw you away from the what the piece is actually titled after, the road workers who are shown off in the distance and then again on the left edge of the painting. The colors give the image a dark look like it is depicting a late fall day with the workers frantically trying to complete the task before the onset of winter. Again, like the impressionism movement, there was not really a prime reason for this movement other than the artists wants to more freely express themselves through their work. The social climate of the times were changing allowing for these artists to do what they were doing, however; the majority of these post-impressionism artists were â€Å"starving artists† and didn’t gain huge notoriety until after death. The two paintings are similar but completely different. Each of the pieces captures the artists view of the world as they perceive it, the use of color to exact a response from the viewer. Each artist depicted a scene in which people were working against the elements with those that were there for leisure. Where they differ is in the way the artist wants the picture to be viewed. While Monet wanted to show the beauty of the landscape, ships and buildings, van Gogh showed a different view of it being distorted colorless and hopeless. As impressionism gave way to post impressionism, post impressionism paved the way for modern art. Showing many artists that it was okay to express and play with imagery. That art was not locked down to someone else’s definition of what it should be. It was what your perception of it was. It could be the anger of a thousand paint splatters. It could be the combination of print, paint, chalk and pastels. What you thought was art was art. As my Grandfather told me, art is not limited or bound by rules nor is it created in a lab. Art comes from within, from your emotions, from your perceptions. Impressionism unlocked chains of a thousand years of oppression to give us the inspiration for what we have now.

The solution is simple: Give the focal point of the sentence its due â€Å"(noun) (verb) (noun),† and demote the false subject to the back of the line. Note that not every passive construction is evil sometimes what seems to be the false subject is worthy of prominence but a preponderance of passive constructions leads to a wearying read. 1. â€Å"There is a considerable range of expertise demonstrated by the spam senders.† The actors in this little drama are the spam spenders or, to be more active, the spam senders are the actors in this little drama. Direct them center stage, and send the weak â€Å"there is† opening packing to the provinces: â€Å"The spam senders demonstrate a considerable range of expertise.† 2. â€Å"It was determined by the committee that the report was inconclusive.† Again, the subject is weak and indeterminate. Attend to the actors: â€Å"The committee determined that the report was inconclusive.† 3. â€Å"We were invited by our neighbors to attend their party.† We is stronger than it as a sentence opener, but â€Å"our neighbors† is stronger still: â€Å"Our neighbors invited us to attend their party.† 4. â€Å"Groups help participants realize that most of their problems and secrets are shared by others in the group.† This sentence starts off actively but then turns and bellies up in the middle; emphasizing â€Å"others in the group† over â€Å"most of their problems and secrets† makes the sentence more active: â€Å"Groups help participants realize that others in the group share most of their problems and secrets.† 5. â€Å"The proposed initiative will be bitterly opposed by abortion rights groups.† The content may be about the proposed initiative, but that doesn’t preclude given a sentence about it a more dynamic structure: â€Å"Abortion rights groups will bitterly oppose the proposed initiative.† 6. â€Å"Minor keys, modal movement, and arpeggios are shared by both musical traditions.† The writer is detailing key information at the head of this sentence, but starting off with the context is stronger: â€Å"Both musical traditions share minor keys, modal movement, and arpeggios.† 7. â€Å"In this way, the old religion was able to survive the onslaught of new ideas until the old gods were finally displaced by Christianity.† Remember when I wrote that not every passive voice should be targeted for reconstruction? This sentence is more active, but no more correct: â€Å"In this way, the old religion was able to survive the onslaught of new ideas until Christianity finally displaced the old gods.† Perhaps the newcomer, Christianity, should also come later in the sentence. Again, don’t indiscriminately exterminate passive construction at the expense of the writer’s voice or intent, but do exercise judicial revision to rejuvenate pallid prose. Diet and Behavior Golden eagles feed on a variety of mammal prey such as rabbits, hares, ground squirrels, marmots, pronghorn, coyotes, foxes, deer, mountain goats, and ibex. They are capable of killing large animal prey but usually feed on relatively small mammals. They also eat reptiles, fish, birds or carrion if other prey is scarce. During the breeding season, pairs of golden eagles will hunt cooperatively when pursuing agile prey such as jackrabbits. Golden eagles are agile avian predators that can dive at impressive speeds (as much as 200 miles per hour). They dive not only to catch prey but also in territorial and courtship displays as well as regular flight patterns. Reproduction and Offspring Golden eagles construct nests out of sticks, vegetation and other materials such as bones and antlers. They line their nests with softer materials such as grasses, bark, mosses or leaves. Golden eagles often maintain and reuse their nests over the course of several years. Nests are usually positioned on cliffs but are also sometimes located in trees, on the ground or on high man-made structures (observation towers, nesting platforms, electrical towers). Juvenile bald eagles look very similar to golden eagles. In these cases flooding will mostly be restricted to flood plains along a river channel or low-lying areas or terrain depressions around the direct source of the flood.The flood water will be shallow and there may not be a perceptible flow apparent or present. Flash Floods: Flash floods is as the name states a flood that happens relatively quick, normally no more than 6 hours to a normal flooding time of 12 to 24 hours or longer. Flash floods is the result of a short concentration time of the drainage catchment or a steep river slope, this means that the precipitati on falling on a point in the catchment farthest from the river takes a very short time to reach the river itself and become a part of the stream flow.Thus the amount of flow will rapidly increase and the water level will rise, when the capasity of the river/stream is exceeded the channel overflows and the result is a flash flood. South Africa was subject to some intense floods over the last couple of years mainly as the result of cloud breaks and very heavy precipitation in very short time periods which leads to flooding of most small streams and rivers, what then leads to the larger rivers to flood.South Africa is also a victim of the Southern Oscillation which leads to El-Nino: dry conditions with high surface pressure and; La-Nina: low air surface pressure accompanied by cold and wet weather. But there is also the chance of major floods in the form of a dam overflowing and then breaking the wall or even minor floods like in the December of 2012 the Ncandu River flowing through Newcastle KZN overreaches its banks and fills the Trim park with water at least 1-2 feet deep as the trim park is adjacent to the rivers. . The Effect of Development on Flood Hazards in SA Right around the world the population keeps growing at an alarming rate as the birth to mortality rate is not b alanced which leads to a world population always wanting and needing to expand city and/or town borders. In this case the chances are very good that eventually there will be building developments inside flood plains or lower laying terrain in the proximity of a dam or large volume of water.Thus the engineers of the modern world in developing countries like for instance South-Africa need to come up with new initiatives to improve building techniques to overcome the obstacle of flooding as the floods can be the cause of havoc among the inhabitants of developments within flood plains or beneath the flood level, and also cause a lot of structural and esthetic damage to a city or town. The parking lot has also been designed on a slope (no flat parking) to act as a funnel leading water away from the mall or danger zone and down into a sub stream or channel. Conclusion My conclusion regarding floods in South-Africa is that our main floods are flash floods that happen as result of heavy rains from the La-Nina time period of the Southern Oscillation, we as the people of our country need to stand together to make a difference in preventing people to build in dangerous high flood risk areas and also need to convince the children of today in developing countries to come up with fresh and new ideas to overcome development issues in flood risk areas. Floods caused many to seek refuge on rooftops and on trees. This catastrophe killed more than hundreds of people causing the death toll to rise. Recently these floods caused evacuation of the Kruger National, a game reserve in Northern South Africa. Floods also covered some farmlands and crops were killed as a result forcing farms to close. Most of the roads, dams and large buildings were damaged. Due to flooding some mines were forced to close, this the case of a coal mines in Limpopo. THE EFFECT OF THE ECONOMIC STATUS OF PEOPLE REGARDING FLOOD HAZARDS. Floods frequently causes major infrastructure damage of roads, railway lines, electricity supply systems, water supply and sewage disposal systems. A breath taking experience from my friend that really makes a history in his life was when he was in a relationship with a Muslim woman. All of us know that is prohibited for a Muslim woman to marry or have a relationship with Christians. At first everything is ok. For him she is the sunshine that brightens up his days. The radiant of her beauty make him feel that every glimpse of memories is worth treasuring. I guess everybody feels that to somebody they loved. Perhaps, when people feel in love, the risk and fear are of no value. They met in a theatre company where they both are member. Both are members of the music ensemble. Perhaps that music interest served as their common ground for conversation. Every piece they played creates them a melody that binds their hearts. Well, that theatre company that they are into is based on school. In short that was just a part of their extra curricular activity. That place became their hangout in other words. Every end of a day they meet their not for anything else but for music. At first they were not friends. They do not often talk. They just look at each other and feel the melodies of music. At that time none of them feel the magnetic reaction on the opposite sex. None of them feel attracted. The boy that time stopped from school and concentrated on his music career. After a month of national tour, the woman was scheduled to be the next one to be sent out for a performance. That was their first time to work together. They never had a work together before that instance. Days pass and seconds gone then the time come when they were to meet for rehearsals. Well, that place was the place of the woman; in short they are far from their school. On their first rehearsal together, everything seems so funny. The woman, because it’s her first time to join the touring company on a show, became as cold as ice. Her lips speak these words in silent: â€Å"I am afraid†. Even then, things work together for good. Their eyes spark when they had an eye-to-eye contact. Well, for them that was just a work. No malice for short. Time passes so quickly that they never noticed that they become closer and closer not only in personal relationship but in their emotions as well. They did not notice the time that they wish those things and memories that passed to happen again. On their way to the hotel, the boy sits beside her as they rode on their vehicle. The boy sang some friendship songs that made the woman to tears. He never noticed it. A time come when the begun to sleep on the woman’s shoulder. He never knew that it happened but because of the bonds that they have, no malice again. That was just a friends way of caring. On that night, they went to a park. Not alone but along with a friend. They cherish the moment together and had their picture taking under the shed of the moon. Sudden glimpse of yesterday popped up on the heart of the boy. As he looked at her at that time he sees a beautiful canvass of God’s creation. She is a majestic creation of God; a proof of His existence and her hair shines and glow as the moon gives its light. As they pass along a garden the beauty of the woman defies the beauty of the colors of the roses. A flower walks on the pathway as the boy look at her in a distance for he was taking pictures on the girl. On their last night, they just sat on a sofa as the woman shares about her past. She has a best friend whom she feels in love with. Since she was away from him for about three years, she wants to meet him just to take a picture of the present. As the conversation goes by, the boy offered the woman his phone for her to call her best friend. At first the woman refused to accept the offer of the boy but as the boy say these words: â€Å"Time passes once, we should think to do things that we wont regret and we must take this moment for this will only pass once†, the woman take the phone and call her best friend. As the boy look at her during her call, he felt happy for his friend. No money can buy the happiness that that phone call gives to her close friend. After the call the boy sent a message for the woman’s friends. He asked them to have a last hour together along with her best friend. He did that just to make the woman happy. What a lovely night that was. Two little creatures of different that came from different lands meet for one reason but that reason gives them a chance to be together without thinking of their different. The girl lean on the boy’s shoulder and take a nap. Without knowing, that became the start for the boy to have different feelings for her. He thought of the instance what if they will fall in love with each other. He thinks for a reason for the world to accept them but he only arrives at the fact that they could never be together. On her way back to school she live a message for the boy (the girl still have a class). Those messages that have tears give him the courage to pursue the unwanted feelings. The dent a message saying: â€Å"I have something to tell you when your boat starts to sail†. Time to sail and the boy sent these messages: â€Å"I never thought I’d feel this way. Those memories you’ve left makes me convince that I love you. It sounds unusual and untrue and you’d like to give me a reason, I do not know what to say. My heart says so and what I did it just telling you what it says†. That was the start of their relationship. When the contract had ended, the boy when home and they met. They build their memories. They talk of the instances and what to do when time comes when the woman’s family will know their relationship. They prepared for it and had agreed that they will put it to end when that happens. Without any delays, after two months of good memories, the woman’s family knew their relationship. The girls tell the boy that the time comes. They knew it was to come but hey had no idea it was that soon. They did not say any words of good bye but their hearts knew what to do. Their heart was crushed down and was torn into pieces. They had nothing to lean on but on each others’ heart. Then that was the start of their nightmare. Their hearts of roses sprout its thorns. Even as they stay as friends, they were covered by clouds. Beautiful scenery, a beautiful flower that was once glow withdrew it lusters. Until now, two years had passed, they still did not move on. Hidden feelings still exist. Despite of the clouds that cover, sunshine rise from a distant as their memories reveal their future. Language differs from place to place. Even so, all people have their common interpretation of a word. In critical thinking, language plays a vital role. This will serve a medium to what words to say. The language serves as a tool to be used for a meaning to be imparted. In critical thinking, one must consider of the words to say in which the receiver of the message will fully understand the meaning of the words. For instance that the transmitter and the receiver differs in language and has no common words for it to be understand, the transmitter must consider to think of a gesture or action to communicate exactly the meaning. Thus the language serves as a limiting reagent in critical thinking, not on the aspect of ideas but on the aspect of the ways to communicate. On the other hand, language does limit the expression of our thoughts. When the transmitter will use only pure words to express his thoughts, the language thus limits his expression; when this happen, a different interpretation might occur. A transmitter of the message should consider communicating on the different level of communication where not only words are used to express the thoughts but the use of the body language itself. Even simple eye-to-eye contact will do. This is a big help in expressing ones thoughts or ideas. In persuasion, critical thinking will really help the receiver of the message to be persuaded. A person who thinks critically will be able to choose right words to say that will make the receiver understand his side. Also, in thinking critically, the person will not only consider the good sides but gives a hint on the bad side. In this manner the receiver will not feel bias on the statement. More of it, the transmitter or the persuader will give the good side on the situation. Also, in critical thinking, the persuader will consider the uniqueness of the person he is dealing with. He will choose of the common ground to feel the empathy of his statements. In this manner, the receiver will feel that the person he is dealing really have a good intention for that matter. Al terminar la guerra Remarque se dedica a la publicidad, a la crà ­tica teatral y a escribir artà ­culos para algunos peridicos, hasta terminar como cronista en la revista Sport im Bild donde empieza a adquirir un estilo literario claro, gil y conciso.1 En 1929 apareci su libro ms conocido Sin novedad en el frente, del que se vendieron 3.5 millones de ejemplares en 18 meses, y fue inmediatamente sometido a las ms fuertes crà ­ticas. En este libro Remarque hace uso de sus propias vivencias en la guerra. Neolithic Architecture in Europe essays The Neolithic period began in Northern Europe several thousand years after it began in the Near East. The movement from the Mesolithic period to the Neolithic period is marked by a shift from exclusive hunting and gathering subsistence to a mainly agriculturally based subsistence, which led to a more settled existence and a new form of art – monumental stone architecture (called megalithic). The megalithic structures of Northern Europe can be classified into three basic categories: Temples, Tombs, and Alignments. Almost all construction was done using rough-hewn stone without the benefit of mortar. Temples and large communal tombs (often referred to as a Necropolis) are generally found on the islands of Malta and Gozo, two small islands in the Mediterranean Sea about fifty miles off the southern coast of Sicily. Alignments and smaller communal tombs are found in Ireland, Britain, France, Spain, and Italy. Examples of European Neolithic Architecture Most European Neolithic temple structures have been found on two small islands off the coast of Sicily: Malta and Gozo. One of the best-preserved temples is Ggantija on Gozo. This is a freestanding structure, located on a hill facing. The exterior was constructed of rough, uncut limestone slabs, which created a wall around two temples. The South Temple is the earlier of the two and consists of a trilobed sanctuary with a smaller oval shaped forecourt. The North Temple is smaller than its forecourt. Both temples have elaborate interior sanctuaries. One curve of the South temple forecourt was lined with platforms that may have been altars. At the entrance to this temple is a large oval stone, lying flat on the ground, which may have been used as a hearth in ceremonies and rituals. Neolithic tombs were usually for communal burial. The necropolis of Hal Saflieni, on Malta, has yielded over 7,000 bodies, in addition to several large statues of females. Such ...
